Studio to Street Fashion

Kristin Van Loon

After class at Tu Dance a few years back, Toni Pierce Sands told me she never wears her dance clothes out in the world.

I make it a policy to always do whatever Toni says so I checked my habit of throwing bigger sweatpants over sweatpants then and there.

…Yet, I am smitten with Penny Freeh’s Dancer Realness look here. Bravo for pink leg warmers Wille grazing coffee on the way to rehearsal. So many totes.

THORSON IS A FASHION ICON ON THE SCENE

…And yet I love the sweatpants over sweatpants look (and the hat on a hat look) on Morgan Thorson’s commute. Thorson is a fashion icon on the scene: she will super duper dress up for the party AND rock the hats and pants look on the street.

Check out her signature layered look, pictured here in Judith Howard’s rehearsal, alongside the fabulous, pants-less skimpy chic style on Morgan Veldhuizen.

Let me go on record saying I hate the yoga look. Those high-tech tights and strappy jog bras bum me out both in the studio and on the street….

…yet, behold, this crazy pattern tights look on Sam Johnson at a summer party at HAIR+NAILS. HELL YES.
