Kristin Van Loon

This spring, the author along with Otto Ramstad (Oslo/Mpls), Margit Galanter (Berkeley), and Maura Gahan (VT) gathered to dance for two weeks with Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson at Madbrook Farm, VT.

On the way out to the airport, we rated our packing jobs: A- (wore everything in suitcase!), B+ (could have had more clean socks and t-shirts instead of a foam roller)… B- (the author regretted bringing one pair of “each kind” of dance pants — baggy, middle, skinny, tights — when she found herself only in the mood for the skinnies worn too many times).

Take away: natural fibers (including a surprise leather vest on Margit!) help tame the stink if you must cram it all into a carry-on.

Otto’s Blue Pants: 3 Days, 3 Ways

Total commitment to wool and cotton.

Otto has warmed up enough to reveal his sweet vintage find: a very very old wool tank top. Otto re-styles those same ole big blue pants by tucking into novelty x-ray socks and busting out a sporty jacket.

+ peep these looks

Studio style icon Margit still rocking the collared silk blouse that made waves at Earthdance in 2010. WORK THE MIDDLE
The author (R) stealing the stripe-y midriff layered look from Maura (L): high waisted tights and low-riding big pants. Tucking. Kneepads have moved to the outside this season.

Bonus

The painterly prism of Steve Paxton’s well-worn Tai Chi shoes walking away.
